Your Nervous Stystem
There is almost nothing about the nervous system that does not excite the imagination. Your nervous system, your neurology, is the most magnificent creation known to science. Forget the wonders of the stars, of space or the deep blue sea, one of the most wondrous creations in the universe can be found within our own bodies.
One of your neurons is capable of ten to ten to eleventh (10¹º)¹¹ neurological connections. That is the number 10, with 10 zeros behind it, written eleven times.
Here it is:
100 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000
000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000
000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000
That is a seriously large number, in fact so large that the human mind, even with all those neurons firing has great difficulty in imagining it. This number is so big that we have no conscious idea of what to compare it with, how to digest its enormity. Secondly it means that you have more possible neurological connections (although you are not using them all) than the number of stars in our visible universe. You have more possible neurological connections than the number of all the grains of the sand on all the beaches on our planet. You have in fact more possible neurological connections than all the atoms in the entire universe; according to quantum physicists, Dr. Paul Goodway. Only one of your neurons is more complicated than the whole telephone network of the world, definitely food for thought.
For decades, scientists have believed that we only have neurons in our brains. Depak Chopra, in his book called "Quantum Healing" published in 1986, hypothesised that neurons are everywhere in the body. In fact, every single cell of your body is bathed in neurons. This means that your brain can communicate with any part of your body almost instantaneously. Your thoughts are automatically communicated to all your cells, all the time. Now, that’s not only interesting, it is also extremely important to us as human beings, because it proves scientifically "The Mind Body Connection"; meaning that your thoughts have a direct effect on every single cell in your body.
Think carefully about this for a while. How would you classify the thoughts going through your mind every day? Are they uplifting and fulfilling thoughts, or are they destructive, negative thoughts? Your thoughts about your psychological makeup and your body have a direct impact on your health and mental well-being. The impact of these thoughts is in fact much deeper than this. In order to understand the relationship between your thoughts and your actions you need to understand this body and mind. How did you ever learn to drive your vehicle easily and effortlessly? Was it not by learning exactly how the controls work and what your vehicle need to always run smooth and effectively?
"The thoughts that you hold in your mind affects your body."
Have you ever heard the saying "all this stuff is just in your mind"? The good news is that, NLP and Quantum Time Line™ are not just in your mind! The fact is that these powerful approaches gave the ability to change and affect the body. Depak Chopra’s findings now validate the effect that the mind has on your physical body. This is the first proof in history of the mind-body connection. That is really important to individuals because for the first time we can see how the thoughts that we hold in our minds do affect our bodies. This opens up a number of possibilities that we can explore.
We have discovered our almost inconceivable potential (10¹º) ¹¹, the magnificence of the body and its neurology and the fact that that new neurological connections are possible and we now know that our mind is integral to unlocking that potential. What new choices do we have access to by knowing this?
The most obvious application of this knowledge is in the area of health. We could now possibly explain so called miraculous healing. We might also gain the possibility of healing ourselves; what was impossible before, now becomes a possibility. Your body has this incredible power of rewiring itself, of course we need to act to make this a reality.
Michael Hutchinson’s book, "Mega Brain" written in 1986, tells the story of a medical doctor who was his lifelong friend. His friend lived a completely normal life. He had a job, a family, kids, and a dog. When his friend died, the doctor did the autopsy on his friend. When he cut open his head, he found that there was no brain! He had a condition known as "Hydrocephalus". The space in the skull for the brain, was actually just filled with spinal fluids instead. This man had no brain since he was born. He had the brain stem, and a very, very thin layer of brain cells, but inside of that, there was only spinal fluid, no brain!
There was a conference in Montreal for medical doctors, and a friend of mine was lecturing the learned crowd. After he shared this story about the man who lived a normal life with no brain, one doctor raised his arm and said that he did an autopsy on his father who also did not have a brain. Nobody told these people that they had no brains. Their ignorance allowed them to lead normal lives! The doctor’s father was actually excellent in maths and an outstanding chess player!
You cannot help but wonder how this is possible. Based on what we have learnt so far, we can conclude that the physiology of the nervous system, from top to toe, rewired itself to compensate for the absent brain. In very simple terms, the functions of the brain were re-assigned.
This leads us to the conclusion that our beliefs significantly influence our behaviour as well as expectation of behaviour. If a child is continuously told; "You are stupid, you are stupid, you are stupid, the child will decide to adopt this as a belief at some point. People by nature actualise behaviour that supports and enforces their beliefs. Remember that you are a magnificent being with a powerful nervous system that has incredible potential. Potential, beyond measure, that leads me to believe that EVERYTHING is possible for each and every human being, including yourself.
